The Dream Theories of Carl Jung

When you are looking outside of yourself, you are actually dreaming and when you start to look inwards your mind awakens to a whole new reality. According to Jung the dreaming process is like a theatrical stage, where the dreamer becomes the screenwriter, director, acting crew, audience and the play critic. Jung believed that everyone and everything in your dream is part of you. Every image in your dream is a symbol of you and represents a hidden aspect of the self. These archetypal constructs structure the inner-self based on one’s outer subjective experiences. The ego-consciousness allows us to recognize and distinguish separate aspects of the inner-self, which are present in others. What distinguishes the external entity from the speaker is the definitive pronoun “you” being addressed as the other in your dream. “Mine” is the price of the word denied by the self, which then becomes “you” and “yours”. You deny “me” the so-called self-denial, because without the definition of “me” there would be no sense of awareness of the concept “you”. Each thing exists only through its otherness and its reversibility as an opposition to its self-negation. Dreams often feel lifelike powered by the subconscious mind, which mirrors real life experiences. For the viewer (protagonist) the elements of the imageless time become projected as a wakeful reality. The structure of the inner-self is shaped by past experiences, which help us to recognize unique aspects and characteristics of the self concealed in others. The self-possessed entity can not have it’s own thoughts outside the imperfect symmetry of infinite consciousness. Therefore the awakened future will deprive the intellectually conditioned martyrs of their sacrificial sufferings, once they realize that the concepts of you and me were mere projections of the Collective Ego. The great work is the uniting of the Ego with the non-Ego. One is all and all becomes one. In this world we don’t see things as they are, we see them as we are. If life imitates art then you can be the creator of your own craft. You can visualize the sequence of your paintings in time and then paint your dreams onto the canvas of life. Appearance is a modification of reality by name and form. Ultimately, your focus determines your reality because energy flows where attention goes.
